A Learning Diverse Environment A multicultural education is a form of education that incorporates a diverse cultural background into learning. Having a multicultural education is beneficial in an abundance of ways especially for the younger generation. American schools should implement multicultural education in classrooms to promote positive attitudes toward one own’s culture and others. The US Census Bureau claimed that America consists of six different races (excluding Whites or Americans): American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and people of two or more races, also called Some Other Race.† (Boundless). As a matter of fact, a multicultural classroom will help children accept and respect that there are other kids and people who are not the same as them and are from a different place. This way, a multicultural classroom would mold a child to thinking that they are in a safe and accepting environment that will lead to success in the future. If only one culture is focused, learned, and talked about in a classroom, it will result in children believing that this specific culture is superior to the others. However, if a multicultural education were to be authorized, it would enable and acknowledge all cultures. Children would be able to note that each culture has its own strengths and weaknesses that makes it equal to any other cultures. It would encourage understanding and tolerance between the diverse groups, which would allow students to relate to one another in class. Moreover, at a young age, a multicultural education can be the first stage of a child’s vocational training according to a book called Integrating Service Learning and Multicultural Education in Colleges and Universities, written by Carolyn O’Grady, Director of the Center for International and Cultural Education at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota.
